Anyways, one of the photos I shot that night will be our Before and After Wednesday image :) Sorry I've dropped the ball on these lately. I've been SUPER busy getting the Raddest Photo Trip Ever launched and then planning my own trips for May and June all over the world (leaving Monday already - that came fast!).

Here's the unprocessed image. Canon 5D MKII + 50L at f/1.4, 1/125th, and iso...5000!!!

Here's the settings for the B&W conversion in Lightroom.

With the above LR settings.

Then I take a brush, set the exposure on the brush to minus 4 - and paint dark all around him (you need LR 2.0 in order to use the brush).

Lastly, I pull it into PS and use my ever trusty, handy dandy TRA's. Old Skool (only choosing contrast at about 30% and blur) and Grandma's Tap Shoes at about 40%. And that's it!
And lest people think I'm a cool guy that hangs out with famous people - here's me looking really giddy and lame...

Pathetic, huh? :P

As always, if you guys like the idea of these posts, or are getting something out of B&A Wed's, go ahead and share the love with friends :D
Now, as always, once those comments get up there I'll do another one!
Bobby

Fantastic shot, and post is even better...I hate to admit it, but that Canon at ISO5000 is awesome...(I'm a Nikon guy, so don't tell the other Nikon people I said that :-) )...

Before and After
This idea is really cool! I loved the final photo! Looked great! And I would probably look all giddy too if I got to photograph or be in the presence of someone I thought was rad!
last shot. freakin awesome!
I love it!!
Wow. I followed a twitter link here (by @elbirth) because it mentioned Frank Black. And that was the second time I'd seen someone mention Frank Black today. So strange. I've had that cd playing constantly in my car that last 2 weeks. You don't care about any of this... sorry.
I enjoyed your post - seeing the setting is great! Really need to upgrad to LR2. I've bookmarked your site and will be back. Thanks!
I love the final shot ! I was always wondering how to clean the beckround. Now I know... I still don't have LR... but soon
Thanks
I like it with the background and without. :) And is that a shootsac I see? lol I love mine!!
And for my last step, I edited my head on this poor guy's body squatting next to Frank Black. hehe
I love the expression on your face, Bobby! You look like a kid at Christmas!
What an awesome post! The finished picture is AMAZING! Please keep doing B&A Wed :) they rock my world :)
So, so awesome. Frank, I mean.
The photo's pretty good too. :)
Just a Frank Black fan passing through. Great shots, by the way!
LOL Bobby @ that last picture. Your like a little kid there with a big smile on your face.
Thats a great photo :)
Dude, I love your blog! I came over and the first post I saw was BLACK FRANCIS - I'm down for the RSS now, thanks....nice conversion. Like another commenter mentioned, I'm transitioning from using LR purely as a slight expansion on Bridge to being a much more important image editing tool as part of our post-pro.
So, I saw this post and my mom was coming into town the same day...she had a box of my old crap in her car from WAY back and as I went through I found my Doolittle and Teenager of the Year cassette tapes....awesome.
Hey Bobby, I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to post all of these before and afters, whether or not you feel like it is helping or worth your time to post them...trust me it is a big help! I am very new in my photography journey(just got my first 40D) and it helps me to see what a difference all the settings do. You rock! Love your style. Thank you!
