Food poisoning is...

NO FUN! Man alive, I don't know what caused it, but whatever did... I hate it! :P

I got hit wednesday night just before midnight. I literally got so dehydrated through the night that I couldn't stand or sit up anymore. If I did, I'd almost pass out I was so lightheaded! Couldn't even keep water down - so my body was really needing fluids.

Anyways, I couldn't get out of bed until about 8pm last (thrusday) night! Let's hope this goes away soon, eh?

Sidenote, 7 years ago today, I got down on one knee and somehow figured out a way to get Lindsay to say she'd marry me. I'm glad she said yes ;)

Thursday, July 30, 2009

Sorry guys!

Last week I skipped a day of blogging and I did it again this week! My bad ;)

Well, earlier this week we had a rad dinner time sesh. For those that don't know, Lindsay and I do one or two of these a month where people take my ugly mug (and Lindsay's pretty mug) out to dinner in exchange for brain picking :)

Ajja is from Hawaii but lives in Philly. She flew from visiting Hawaii to Oregon for a wedding, down to SoCal (where we met), now she's off to Colorado, and then home to Philly... Holy crazy plane flights, Batman! We were lucky enough to be on Ajja's "if I ever get to California I'm taking them to dinner" list!

This girl has an AWESOME story and was just an all around pleasure to meet. Gratitude is probably my favorite characteristic in a person - and does she ever have it! Such a pleasure being around people like that, you know? You can see all about her positivity at her blog. Thanks again for such a great time, Ajja!!!

I look so weird in this because I left my camera at home - and Ajja's only had a TWO second timer! So I had to press the button and RUN back to them. This is me arriving RIGHT on the click :P

--------------------

So yesterday we went with two of our best friends to The Tonight Show with Conan O'brien! It was so much fun :)

Lindsay after getting her wristband :)

Lindsay and I used to talk about going out to New York to see Conan our first year of marriage. 6 years later, Conan comes to us! It was such a fun day.

Any other Conan fans out there? And have you ever noticed that if you leave "O'Brien" off of "Conan", it reads much more like Conan from "Conan, the Barbarian" than it does Conan from "Conan O'Brien". Pointless, random observatoin :)

Interview with Totally Rad Actions:

The interview was so much fun! Kristen was so much fun to talk to :)

Really appreciate all of you that listened in, commented on twitter and facebook, and messaged me... Can't say enough how good you guys made me feel!

For those that missed it, you can listen here... (be sure and press play ;)

Here's a direct link for RSS feed readers. Also, some are saying it won't play here on the blog -- if so, try the direct link and that should do it.

Again, so touched that you guys would care to listen to me ramble about nonsense. Meant the world to me. You guys are the BEST blog readers out there ;)

Lindsay's favorite person...

Real fast, the "rippingest-photoshop-actions-ever" people at Get Totally Rad are going to be interviewing me tomorrow at noon :) If you've ever wanted to listen to a TOTALLY under-qualified guy talk about matters that he shouldn't be talking about in public... now's your chance! :P

I imagine we'll talk about photography, how I couldn't point out an Ansel Adams photo if you paid me 50 bucks, and hopefully a TON about traveling as a photographer - I feel much more qualified talking about that subject ;) So tomorrow (Tuesday) at noon (California time), go here if you want me to bore you to tears.

--------------------

You know, I'd like to say Lindsay's favorite person is me, but I just might be lying if I did.

In January of 2001 - just four months after Lindsay and I had met - Lindsay went off to China to work at an orphanage for a couple months. She fell in love with a girl. A girl named "Reilly". Six months later, I was blessed with the opportunity to go with Lindsay back to China for a couple months to work at the same orphanage. Reilly was still there and I got to see what Lindsay looked like when she was completely in love with a little child. Seeing Lindsay's reaction to Reilly being excited to see her friend return was something I'll never forget. Reilly completely stole Lindsay's world. Every moment of every day she wanted to be around Reilly - and Reilly returned the favor :)

Had Lindsay not been a single 19 year old, she would have done everything in her power to adopt her. And I don't mean that in other other sense than the "I'm dead serious" sense. She had a genuine love for this little girl.

Well, after we left China, Lindsay and I went on to date seriously, get engaged, get married, and move to Texas working with the organization we had met in. Somewhere along the way, an incredible - and I mean INCREDIBLE family adopted Reilly. We were over in China when the adoption process started - and we got to see something that was literally priceless. Reilly walking around shouting with joy in Chinese "this is my family!" while holding their photo in the air like it was her national flag.

When we returned to Texas a year or so later, we heard Reilly's adoption had gone through. The day arrived where Lindsay would see little Reilly again.

We went over to the Pontius' house. It's a house of true love. A huge family that gets along in a way you just don't see anymore. Reilly was playing in her room. After a while, Reilly and Lindsay started going through photos of Reilly at the orphanage. She got to pictures of her and Lindsay and started telling Lindsay how this was her favorite friend at the orphanage. Lindsay explained to her that she was the same girl that was in the picture. Reilly did about five double takes - picture, Lindsay, picture, Lindsay... BOOM! It hit her. She grabbed Lindsay by the hand and from then on out, I was COMPLETELY invisible.

One day I ran into the Pontius family at Burger King. Lindsay wasn't with me. Reilly, with her at the time broken english, ran up to me with joy - not looking at me, but looking around me - said "where are her?!?" I told her she wasn't with me today and Reilly walked off as if I was chopped liver :)

--------------------

Anyways, this weekend Lindsay was crying as she was staring at the computer. Why? Well Reilly friend requested her on Facebook. I think going through photos and seeing a loved, teenage Reilly all just hit her at once. This little orphan that Lindsay fell in love with 9 years ago - and prayed so adamently to be adopted by a great family - was no longer a little orphan in China. She's now a young woman with an incredible mother, father, brothers and a sister - living better than Lindsay could have ever dreamed.

Reilly's brother is a young photographer with a ton of talent. He sent Lindsay a few photos of Reilly that sent her over the moon. This one stuck out the most (for obvious reasons)...

There are a lot of problems with humanity - bad things happen to decent people all the time, that's for sure. But there are incredible stories of absolute good in our world that aren't to go unnoticed. Reilly's story of becoming a part of the Pontius family is something to be reminded of...

Hannah and Derek: Temecula engagement session

So today I had the absolute pleasure of shooting an engagement session up at the Santa Rosa plateau. What a BEAUTIFUL place!

We went there with friends a couple years ago in search for mountain lions and coyotes (found coyotes - but no lions). I've wanted to go back for a while, and what better excuse than to shoot Hannah and Derek?!

I shot these with my main man, Dane - who refuses to get his blog up and running! I bet there's a few people here who would love to see it, right??? Anyways, this is us getting the next shot...

How beautiful are these two?!

Show me the money:

I have WAY too much international currency. So much that I can't find it all... somewhere there's more Fijian dollars, Swiss Francs, Thai Baht, British pounds, and probably something else. I was supposed to put it all in one place and then cash it in, but I just kept forgetting where that "one" place was :P

Now to find the best place to cash it in at... any ideas???

Africa done! Paris stopover:

This post finishes up our recent Africa trip. Here's our last photo as we left Africa. An insanely adorable baby Vervet monkey... man I miss these!

On our way out of Kruger National Park - about 100 feet from the exit point - there was a fresh lion kill! You get out on foot at the exit gate, so it felt CRAZY walking around knowing that there was a pride of WILD lions just a hundred feet away!!!

Well, it was goodbye South Africa :( Somewhere between Kruger and Johannesburg we stopped for food at a KFC. This must have been a pretty rough area as there were people telling us we needed to pay them money in order for them to guard our car! We didn't pay :P

--------------------

We arrived for another day in Paris. Not a bad ender for an African safari (says this wedding photographer, at least :)

Andrew grabbed this one :)

Dane grabbed this one :)

Dane giving Andrew's camera all he's got...

Any fellow Aqua Teen Hunger Force fans out there recognize this?

Next time you want to talk smack to me at the Eiffel Tower, just remember this armbar :P

Me, Lindsay, Andrew, and Dane. This crew has done France/Italy, Thailand/Cambodia/China, and now Africa/France :) Great memories...

Andrew showing the world how manly I can sit at times.

Taking the metro back to the airport...

What an incredible journey this was.

I'm so thankful for the life I live. Not because of the traveling I do - of course that's fun and I'm grateful for it - but the real thing I'm thankful for is the incredible relationships I have. I love traveling with Lindsay, Andrew, and Dane because they share my absolute appreciation for discovering new parts of this awesome world we live on.

It was a trip I'll never forget ;)

Mythical monday! Chicken hormones?

Chicken. I've been scared into buying the expensive stuff. Why? Well hormones, of course!

It's common knowledge that unless you buy organic chicken (or foster farms), you're almost certainly buying the carcass of an animal that has been PUMPED full of steroids (either through injections, feeding, or both). This has caused me to buy expensive, organic chicken breasts.

Well a friend told me a while back that hormones/steroids are not legally allowed to be used on poultry. I immediately thought "I wish!" - and sort of dismissed it. I mean, SO MANY people say that this is the case -- even Foster Farms advertises that you should buy their chicken because it's hormone/steroid free -- so it must be true, right?

Snopes and Wikipedia to the rescue!

Steroids/hormones were rarely used in the first place - but were officially made illegal to use on poultry in 1959. Which begs the question, why does Foster Farms and other organic companies claim something that is true for EVERY poultry company?

It's smart marketing but also borderline fear-mongering.

I look at images like this and just wonder if this can be ethical? If they don't know, then they're ignorant - which wouldn't be a huge crime if they weren't in the business and sort of owed it to us customers to do their research. If they do know, they're just deceiving. Either way, no bueno :)

Just goes to show that if something is said enough - even in the face of the facts - it can be believed. Was this news to anyone else like it was news to me?

Google irony:

When I was growing up, we only got shoes at Payless shoes for like $7. When you're 11 and you're dying to have some Reebok pumps or Air Jordans like the cool kids??? Payless is your worst enemy.

The day finally came. There were some Nike's for $35 at a local store and my parents decided to stretch the budget for them. I wasn't the coolest kid in 6th grade by any measurement - but I was convinced that this was my ticket to the top! Last minute, I decided to gamble. I saw some Raiders shoes. Lightbulb! That was it. Those were going to make me cool. I put it all down on the Raiders shoes. The kids at school knew something that I didn't -- that the Raiders are a football team - not a stupid shoe. From then out, I knew gambling was not in my future :P

--------------------
(I didn't google these myself... my stats page tells me what people search when they find me, I swear! :)

If you google "booby boobs", 10,000 results come up. Somehow, I'm #15.

If you google "stupid stories of the day" 21.3 MILLION results show up. Somehow, I'm #7.

If you google "soft porn photographer candice", 70,000 results come up. Somehow I'm #4.

If you google "why guys laugh in the middle of a women's temper tantrum", 30,000 results come up. Somehow I'm #3.

And the kicker? If you google "michelle obama 100% porn", 165,000 results show up. Somehow, I'm #3!

--------------------

But if you google "san diego wedding photographer" somehow I'm somewhere in the 50-100 result range. Thank goodness nearly all of my couples don't find me through google! :P

--------------------

Since my posts look WAY better with hot photos of Lindsay, here's a little ripper AA shot when we were in Africa a couple months back...

Have a good weekend!!!

Bobby

Annoying things - a mildly negative post :)

So I recently asked for ideas for a blog post... Dr. Sham Wow (his commenting name - I doubt that's his REAL name :P) said that since I'm usually positive on the blog, it'd be interesting to hear about what annoys me.

I seriously love life - hardly ever let things/people that annoy me set me off or ruin my day. But there are definitely things that annoy me! Get ready for some negative emoting :P

--------------------

1. People that mourned like crazy on Twitter, blogs, and facebook statuses about MJ's death. I'm not talking about the odd "rip MJ" - more the crying and screaming ;)

--------------------

2. Sean Hannity. Wow. I saw a clip of him recently going agro over a picture of Obama that LOOKED like he was checking a girl out. Hannity insists on stating (over and over) that the girl was only sixteen. There's a video clip of the photos - it's not even close to that. He's just turning to help someone down some steps. Talk about disrespecting our commander in chief...

I wish guys like Keith Olbermann and Sean Hannity would just go away... I'm very fair with who annoys me :)

--------------------

3. People that rejoiced like crazy on Twitter, blogs, and facebook statuses about MJ's death. Lame.

--------------------

4. People on Facebook who's political party is "Obama." Maybe not the people. I love a ton of people who have that, actually... just the idea of it. If you care enough/know enough about politics, you'll know that Obama is in fact... (gasp!) a democrat. There's nothing wrong with the term democrat, is there? :P

And I don't blame this annoyance on President Obama ;)

--------------------

5. People that are REALLY concerned with getting in line first. You know the kind - you're a little closer to the checkout line then they are, but if they run they can beat you there, you know? That guy/gal annoys me. Especially since they're typically older than me...

--------------------

6. My mom at Chick-fil-a. WOW. God bless her for enduring 52 hours of labor in a trailer out in the middle of nowhere (no lie - plus I was 10lbs!). But every time -- no seriously, every time she makes an order mistake, doesn't know what she's going to get as she's ordering, looks confused as if she's never been (after she's stood in line for several minutes). I'll go to the bathroom to wash my hands and come out... she still looks like a three year old attempting quantum physics :P

It's Chick-fil-a -- You're either getting a chicken sandwich or chicken nuggets!

--------------------

7. Stephen Merhant/Ricky Gervais (creators of the Office - the original version). I'm re-watching their incredible TV show called "EXTRAS" - a show about an extra who is trying his best to get a line in one of the films he's background on. It's amazing. What annoys me about it? There are two seasons with only six episodes and then a two hour special. I want more!

Here's a rad clip from the show.

--------------------

8. The guy who created Super Size Me. Guess what, dummy... of course you'll be in bad shape if you eat at McDonald's 3 times, get every meal supersized, AND have desserts after all of them! Did we really need a documentary to tell us that?

--------------------

9. Hillary Duff, Wanda Sykes, and anyone else that gets REALLY offended if you use the word "gay" but couldn't care less if you use the word "lame" (since that is referring to disabled people who can't walk).

You can see the above embedded clip here.

I kind of want Lindsay to do one of these... She's way more positive than I am. I could see her saying something like "Umm, it annoys me when... when I'm not as nice to the DMV clerk as I should be?" :P

Before and After Wednesdays #14

Woohoo! Two weeks in a row!

My favorite thing about PP (post processing) is the same thing that a TON of photographers hate about PP. There's some photographers that tell others not to be a "photoshopographer" - and I totally understand their point... to an extent.

I think that we need to shoot with photography in mind - substance in the image, noisy objects out, a story being told, decent exposure... I totally agree with that.

What I don't like is when people belittle end results by acting like it's less of a great image because it didn't look all that good BEFORE the PP. I'm big on pragmatism. If it works (and it isn't immoral), great! If your image looks good in the end - I don't care how great you got it straight out of camera or how terrible it looked. I really, really don't. I think technical greatness is something to strive for in photography, but that's a totally separate issue, isn't it?

The great thing about PP is that it can make a good photo great, a great photo look like you want it to, and sometimes a bad photo look cool! In photography, end result is far more important than anything else, imo ;)

Having said all of that, I totally acknowledge that there is the issue of over-processing - so no need to point that one out :) I know I've been guilty of that one :P

Anyways, here's the first image. Straight out of camera (thanks to AA)...

Here's what was done in Lightroom 2. The only thing not noted was the exposure brush that I used on Lindsay's eyes...

Here's what it looked like after LR. I like it - some might think it should stop here - but I wanted something more.

In comes my slobbering love affair with Totally Rad Actions! via Adobe Photoshop CS4...

We've got Old School, Get Faded (winter), and Grainstorm. Here's the after black hammer...

My opinion? Well, since I didn't take the photo, I can go on all day about it! I freaking love it. I think Lindsay looks insane :)

Easy peasy, huh?

As always, if you're getting anything out of these, share with friends, tweet the post, and let me know here! The more I know that these posts are helping people the more it reminds me to make time to do them :)

Free websites!

David Jay is sort of the man and made it to where you can have a free freaking Showit Site. Obviously, it isn't going to have all the bells and whistles of the pro version - but still, it's pretty rad, if you ask me :)

You can publish 5 pages, host 30MB of data, get a free vanity URL with your name, get access to club showit - all for free. Pretty darn bueno!

So who's going be making a new site???

Will work for food #2: Love Boat!

We've worked for food in the past. Last time it was for California Pizza Kitchen, then it was Pei Wei... Well, we're out of Pei Wei cards and nearly out of CPK cards - so it's time again! This time? Love Boat Sushi!

My love for food sparked the "will work for food" idea. This isn't a promotion to get more clients or some extra cash (I don't think crunchy shrimp rolls pay the bills :P ). It's just a simple, fun exchange of favors! You bring me food and I bring you photos - and we hang out in the process!

A $300 gift card to Love Boat Sushi is all you need to get some Bobby Earle shots of your own. This will get you a mini family/couple session (family session in Escondido area) - somewhere around 30-60 minutes of photography - and a disc of all the digital negatives. For family sessions, this is the biggest deal as I don't offer a disc normally - and it's quite pricey for couple sessions :)

I've got at least one spot open in the next couple weeks here - possibly two (don't hold me to it). If you've wanted to have a family shoot or a couple shoot - but money was a little bit of an obstacle, well this post is for you! We will work for Love Boat. It's just that good :D

From a recent family shoot...

The first to email (info@bobbyearle.com - put LOVEBOAT in the subject) and respond to my confirmation email gets it! The people who've grabbed this the last three times all got me within the hour - so first come, first serve :)

Bobby

That went fast :) To all that emailed in, keep your eyes open for when we run out of Love Boat money again!

Whatcha want?

So after doing a few Ask Lindsay posts, I realized you guys are good at this whole blogging through my blog thing :) I figured I'd just go all out and see if any of you could come up with some cool, random, "stuff I'd probably never think to blog about" blog posts. Really - anything can be on the table for this one...

So... who's got it?

Bobby

p.s. if you don't have any ideas, this freaking GORGEOUS photo of Lindsay should give you something to talk about! AA took it over in Paris last month - he gave me the RAW... hope he doesn't mind that I PP'd it :P

Have a great weekend!

Dinner time!

I enjoy good food. I love it. Seriously. Can't get enough of it. People are usually shocked when they see me eating food that I really, really like. If you've ever seen the American classic comedy, "What About Bob?", think when Bob (Bill Murray) is eating dinner with "the fam" :) It's kind of like that...

Well whenever I get emailed about doing one on one workshops with photographers, I usually respond with "how about you take us to dinner and you can pick our brain there?" This mixes several things that I love: hanging out, photography talk, and my favorite foods :)

Recently we've had dinner with a bunch of awesome photographers -- Katie Yates and Char Baiz being ones with blogs (love these two) -- and last night, Rhiona and Ricky.

We met these two last month when Rhiona told me that she's been waiting to get engaged so she could have an excuse to book us. How sweet is that?! We're shooting her wedding next May, but in talking about photography and life, she's decided that she wants to take her love for photography to another level. That's where dinner and brain picking came in.

Lindsay, me, Ricky, and Rhiona after good convo and full bellies.

(To add to that, when I ask "what time is the wedding at?" Rhiona says "when do you want us get married?" - in regard to the best time for the light. Talk about a perfect bride. Fellow photographers, you know what I'm talking about.)

Anyways, I learned from DJ that sharing with other photographers is so much better than hoarding what you know out of fear of competition (thanks deej!). I'm not comfortable yet with doing proper photography mentor sessions - maybe soon enough - but I'm totally down with trading dinner for brain picking! I'll see if we can do maybe one or two of these a month -- so if you want to take us to dinner, with no questions being off the table, just email me with "DINNERTIME" in the subject.

Obviously, people who want to go to Ruth's Chris or Donovan's will get to cut to the front of the line :P

Seriously, thanks for being such awesome blog readers.

Before and After Wednesdays #13 - We're back!

Man, it's been a long time since a Before and After Wed, hasn't it?! This is Kevin and Michelle in Fiji - being romantic as ever :)

Here's the before and after...

In Lightroom, all I did was adjust the exposure - bumping it +0.67. Once pulled into photoshop, I used my handy dandy TRA's. Here's the recipe there...

Magic Glasses - 21%
Pool Party - 20%
Grandma's Tap Shoes - 42%
Contrast - 16%
Lights on - 13%
Grainstorm - 90%

Easy-peasy, huh???

As always, if you guys like the idea of these posts, or are getting something out of B&A Wed's, go ahead and share the love with friends :D

Ben and Jackie: Australia (wedding)

So I'm trying my best to catch up with everything that's been going on lately... Forgive me for being so behind!

Jackie and Ben's wedding was out in Newcastle, Australia - and I shot this wedding with my ripping photo friend, Luke Arms (who also hosted us while we were out in Oz). Be sure to stop by his brand new blogsite and send him some love!

Haven't finished going through them yet, but here's some I've got so far :)

I love this dress shot... I also love my 24 tilt that I shot it with :)

It was supposed to rain this day. I think this might have been a last minute prayer that it wouldn't :)

The guys playing the waiting game...

Tiny sprinkles as the service starts. It looks so pretty and that was the worst it got. Perfect :)

The church had beautiful stained glass windows!

Mingling after the ceremony...

Beautiful bride :)

I call this "geniuses at work" - I think Luke will agree :)

I don't normally spend a lot of time on formals - but Luke did some awesome posing, so I shot away :)

Can't wait to get back out to Australia again. Obviously, every country has its share of jerks, but there's something about the kind, happy people in Oz that sets them apart from everyone else. I was over there for a couple months before Lindsay and I got married, and I've long told Lindsay that there aren't many things more endearing than a kind Australian. She now fully agrees with me :)

What would you do?

So there's a mouse in our house... Right next to our toilet. He's dug straight through and into our bathroom wall! Check it out...

It's really cute because one night I see all the stuffing coming out of the wall and don't think anything of it. I pull it out and see a bare hole. Oh well... no biggee. Well the next day it's stuffed back up! Almost like he was insisting on his privacy :)

What do you think we should do???

Fiji Wedding Photos

So ever since I posted their sneak peak, I've been dying to post the rest of Kevin and Michelle's wedding. They're destination wedding was at the beautiful Shangri-la Fijian resort in Fiji - definitely a great place to get married. Some of the nicest staff I've encountered.

I've thought for a while about doing reviews of places around the world on my blog (just in case any of you guys are going on holiday or planning a destination wedding) and this resort made me certain I'm going to... when I get the time :)

Onto the photos!

This is one of the reasons I stay wherever the bride and groom are staying for my destination weddings. Our plane was late and we didn't get in 'til around 10pm. I looked outside our room's window and saw these two (Kevin and Michelle) being too cute! We flew to Australia, waited at the airport, then flew to Fiji -- so to say I was tired was an understatement -- but photos like this make it all worth it :) Kevin threw Michelle in the pool and they just stayed in the water a while. Loved it.

Lindsay grabbed a shot of me shooting the shoes :) I look at that picture and am so grateful to call that "work" :)

This was their room. Not bad, huh? Oh and this is a stich of I think 17 images?

Her dress was stunning!

Love this shot of Kevin getting ready.

It was supposed to rain - but instead, we had these beautiful, moody clouds. It's always so funny because whenever it's cloudy, guests look at me and say something like "bad day for pictures, eh?" I know different photographers have different preferences - so I can only speak for myself - but cloudy days are my FAVORITE! There's such a beautiful mood to them (not to mention the soft light they provide!).

Okay, so the music over there? So incredibly pleasing! It fits so well over there and kind of makes you feel like you're in a movie with a fitting soundtrack.

A classy, sexy first kiss.

Just married.

I don't ever post formals really - but this doesn't really count as formals :)

My favorite image from the day.

First dance :)

I love the idea of a bride and groom cutting their cake - and their Grandma so into checking out the cake that she gets this close (not to mention she was one of the cutest Grandma's ever :).

Kevin thanking everyone for flying out to Fiji.

Whenever I have time (or the couple gives me a break of time for this during the reception) I like to grab my favorite 25-50 images from the day, find a table off to the side, and let the photos loop on their own for the remainder of the night. It's a nice way for everyone to see photos on the wedding day, but it doesn't stop everyone in their tracks like a one time show on a big projector does :)

Some details from the day.

It was truly a great wedding :)

Stupid stories #2 - the fire ate my homework!

Homework... man I hated homework growing up. I'd procrastinate until the very last minute, make up every excuse in the book... Unless I could do a report about how I was going to be a millionaire one day (by playing point guard for the Lakers - Mr. "last picked for every sport", no less :), I just hated the stuff.

I'll come back to that in a moment...

We grew up nice and poor. I personally wouldn't change anything about it as it made for some really fun, crazy times. In that time, I've watched three (that's right, THREE) of our family cars burn up on the side of the road. This was the first one.

It was an old VW Rabbit and I was in 6th grade. I can't remember why it happened, but the car just started burning up. I'm pretty sure it was people driving by mouthing really intensely "FIE - ER... FIE - ER!" My parents got the point and hopped out. Apparently, there was a few hundred dollars in the glove compartment that my dad remembered, so he jumped back in, burned himself, and got that paper!

I couldn't have cared less. In the most troublesome of financial times, my parents never were shaken. They never let a money problem ruin our fun... ever. Probably one of the most invaluable things they passed on to me in life. However, this meant my thought process was like this -->

"Hmm, our car just burnt up... My spelling book is due tomorrow morning and now I have a way out!!!"

I had this way about lying when I was a kid. If I could legitimately feel like something could happened, then I almost believed it did happen (I should have an entire blog post about my insane lies as a kid. There's some crazy ones. Whatcha think??). I figured, "well, that's the car I take to school so I could have left my spelling book in there. If I did, it would have burned up..." So I told Mrs. Hickox (who my dad mistakenly called "Mrs. Wilcox" even though she was one of my teachers for three years!) that it burned up with the car. I'm not certain, but I sort of remember thinking that she might have been on to me. Either way, I got out of my spelling homework... probably just got an extension, but it worked for me!

Anyways, here's a photo to pretty up the blog post...

Anybody have something similar? Any homework dodgers out there?

The ABC's

This has been going around on Facebook (you should friend request me, by the way ;) so I thought I'd have a try...

A - Age: I literally always think 23 - and then I have to think how old Lindsay is and subtract a year :) I'm 26 (27 next month! Weird.).

B - Bed size: Queen. Way too small when a big german shephard hogs it all. Do they make emperor size? If not, we need at least a king :P

C - Chore you hate: Lindsay does the dishes and the laundry. I do all the after shooting stuff with our photography and the cooking. I don't really hate any of it...

A day at the office :)

D - Dog's name: When Remi was a puppy she used to yell at us when she wanted to play. She basically would say "Rah-Rah" really loud. It was sooo cute. We almost changed her name to Rah-Rah, but we'd been calling her Remi for about a month at that point...

E - Essential start your day item: I start every morning off the same. I half wake up, lay in bed with Lindsay for a half hour, check for airfare around the world on my laptop (right next to my bed), pet Remi... Gets me pumped every morning :)

F - Favorite color(s): We found a paper of mine from third grade. I answered "electronicalized green" - no lie. Apparently, "electric" green wasn't "electronicalized" enough. Later on I moved it to blue. Then in the teens it was black. Now that I've grown I've realized I'm not that big on favorites. I always came up with an answer because I figured I had to. Now I just like all the stuff I like - goes the same for food, hobbies, etc :)

G - Gold or Silver: I've never been a fan of jewelry. I honestly don't get it. If there was more gold around, the exact same thing wouldn't be as valuable (and therefore not worn as much). It's too subjective for me... And I'm a VERY lucky man who married a woman who thinks the same.

H - Height: I think the doctor said I can legitimately say I'm 5'10" and a half. He was probably being nice.

I - Instruments you play: Music used to run my life. I started on piano around 4, moved to trumpet, then guitar, bass, drums, flutes... Instruments have always been one of the more natural things for me to pick up.

J - Job title: Photographer?

K - Kitchen wish list: A HUGE island :D I love cooking and would kill for a huge space!

L - Living arrangements: We were gone I think four months for 2008 - and it looks like it'll be somewhere similar in '09. If it's a hut in Africa, a hole in the wall in Asia, a five star beach resort in Fiji, or a train station floor in Europe... so long as Lindsay's there, it's home :) Cheesy to the point of sounding like I'm hamming it up, I know; but it's totally true.

M - Mom's name: Eileen.

N - Nicknames: Bobska. Bobskies. Booby. Boobs. Jugs (came from friends who first called me boobs - which came from booby.)... a ton of names that spawn from boobs, as it happens. Wolfman, Babboon, Wanderlei... there's a bunch :)

O - Overnight hospital stay: When I was 7 months old I almost died from having both types of pneumonia. I was a 10 pound baby so I lived off some nice baby fat :) That's the only hospital stay I've had.

P - Pet Peeve(s): Bullying. That's probably more than a pet peeve, though... Oh! I got one! I special order fast food - double cheeseburger plain with cheese, for example. I NEVER mind when they get the order wrong. Not even an ounce. What I HATE is when they treat me like I'm the one made the mistake.

Q - Quote from a movie: From Team America: World Police (the South Park guys) during the Film Actor's Guild meeting...

Alec Baldwin: By following the rules of the Film Actor's Guild, the world can become a better place; that handles dangerous people with talk, and reasoning; that, is the FAG way. One day you'll all look at the world us actors created and say, "wow, good going, FAG. You really made the world a better place, didntcha, FAG?"

Tim Robbins: Let me explain to you how this works: you see, the corporations finance Team America, and then Team America goes out... and the corporations sit there in their... in their corporation buildings, and... and, and see, they're all corporation-y... and they make money.

Janeane Garofolo: As actors, it is our responsibility to read the newspapers, and then say what we read on television like it's our own opinion.

R - Right or left handed: Right. But I can eat chopsticks left handed :)

S - Siblings: 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

T - Time you wake up: Anywhere from 8am to noon. I have a VERY terrible sleeping schedule.

U - Underwear: Is this asking if I wear it? Boxers? Weird question.

V - Vegetable you dislike: All but three or four. Literally.

W - Workout style: I really enjoy intense circuit training. A few years back I was at pretty awesome five 5 minute rounds - with a minute break in between. Best shape of my life. I've just restarted this week, so hopefully I can stick with it :)

X - X-rays you've had: I think my last broken bone was a foot (I've got my share of injuries). My friends all make fun of me for getting hurt in ways that just don't seem possible. I broke this foot surfing. I learned to surf on a shortboard, it was my first time on a longboard, it shot up when a wave took me out, the fin slammed down directly across my foot. I was so turned upside down that I thought I got stung by a stingray, or something. When I swam in and tried to stand up, I figured it out pretty quick :)

Y - Yesterday's best moment: Watching the Hangover again :)

Z - Zoo favorite(s): Are you kidding me?! We'll be here all day! I can literally sit and watch squirrels for an hour. The hawks that live in our backyard? I watch them until they fly off. So when you start talking wild animals outside my own country? Let's just say nearly all of them...
